The Life and Legacy of John Green John Michael Green, one of the most influential voices in contemporary young adult literature, was born on August 24, 1977, in Indianapolis, Indiana. From an early age, John's life was shaped by a love of words and stories, as well as the frequent moves of his family, which gave him a broad perspective on life in America. His parents, Mike and Sydney Green, were both supportive and intellectually nurturing, encouraging John and his younger brother, Hank, to engage deeply with the world around them. Though he was born in Indiana, John spent much of his early life in Michigan and later in Birmingham, Alabama.
